Randy Bowen
“Randy is a gifted potter, and he plays the drums like an artist. He can keep time as well as anyone, but he does so much more. He’s not merely memorized a series of drumbeats and fills, switching them out for variety. When he sits down at the kit he tells a new story; he sculpts an original form in sound. Every time. He’s got the biggest ears and he’s big fun. Randy is such an interesting drummer, in fact, that he ties with Jack DeJohnette as my favorite.” -Michelle Mercer
A regional legend, Randy Bowen was the original drummer with the Bodo Trio in 1989, playing free and extemporaneous music with Craig Owens and Glenn Holmes. In addition to his work in avant-garde music, Randy plays cajun music, any variety of rock, straight-ahead jazz, R&B of any period and beyond.
Currently based in Black Forest, Colorado, Randy runs Bowen Pottery with his wife Shannon, plays in various Colorado musical settings and performs regionally with Craig Owens and the Bodo Ensemble and David Lord.
