Sam Hake
As a vibraphonist, drummer, songwriter, vocalist and educator, Sam Hake wears many hats.
On vibraphone, Hake has been featured on numerous notable releases including David Lord’s first two Forest Standards releases and the recent, Way Over the Rainbow. As a drummer and bandleader, his Sam Hake Trio has become a mainstay in midwest jazz clubs. As a songwriter and vocalist he can be heard on various releases by The Wonder Revolution including The Magic World, The Forest Meeting and Dots.
Hake has developed an original sound on each of his instruments of choice. His rich four mallet chords are a perfect fit for Lord’s lydian musical system, while his quirky melodic sense informs his songwriting and improvisation. His Ahmad Jamal inspired trio features his characteristic sense of restraint and taste on the drum set.
In addition to his diverse musical output, Hake is a renowned music educator and administrator.
